Measures of Success – B-Flat Bass Clarinet – Book 1

Description

Ignite your musical journey with Measures of Success for Band, Book 1 – Bass Clarinet, the premier beginner method book written by leading educators Deborah A. Sheldon, Brian Balmages, Timothy Loest, and Robert Sheldon. Specifically tailored for the low winds player, this comprehensive, 56-page volume is organized into six highly structured chapters called “Opuses”. It safely guides developing bass clarinetists through essential fundamentals—including early tone production, standard fingerings, and proper breath support—by carefully balancing long tones with rhythmic quarter-note exercises. Through a diverse collection of duets, solos, and full-band arrangements, students learn core musicianship concepts while exploring classical masterworks and global folk traditions. Designed with classroom accountability and independent home practice in mind, every section concludes with a comprehensive “Encore!” assessment page to evaluate music theory, critical listening, and playing by ear. The curriculum supports cross-disciplinary study by seamlessly linking lessons to world history, art, and literature. Students can also access high-quality audio demo tracks and performance accompaniments that span diverse genres from concert band to jazz, funk, and rock. Fully aligned with national music education standards and compatible with SmartMusic interactive practice software, this method book delivers the solid technical foundation and artistic inspiration young bass clarinetists need to truly succeed.
