Bastien Piano Basics Level 4 – Performance

Description

Bastien Piano Basics Level 4 Performance is the solo collection that pairs with the Level 4 lesson book. Written by Jane Bastien and published by Neil A. Kjos Music Company, this book gives intermediate students complete pieces to shape, polish, and perform. At Level 4, students are no longer just learning notes and rhythms. They’re developing control over phrasing, dynamics, articulation, and stylistic contrast. The Performance book supports that growth with character pieces, lyrical works, and rhythmic selections that stretch musical maturity without jumping ahead technically. Teachers often use this book for: Recital selections Festival and adjudication pieces Weekly performance goals Reinforcing concepts introduced in the Level 4 Lesson book The difficulty generally falls in the SMP Level 3–4 range, making it appropriate for solid intermediate students who are comfortable reading in multiple keys and coordinating more independent hand movement. Selections like Water Lilies and Misty Moon build expressive playing, while pieces such as T.I. Boogie and Up Hill Race strengthen rhythmic precision. Familiar tunes including Turkey in the Straw and Battle Hymn of the Republic are arranged at an accessible intermediate level. If your student is progressing through Bastien Piano Basics, this is the correct Performance book for Level 4. If you’re unsure whether you need the Lesson, Theory, or Performance book, bring in what you have and we’ll help you match it correctly.
